The cost for Madi’s service has 3 components:
a. The cost of remailing from Los Angeles to Japan, listed on the chart below, plus the current fuel surcharge (see chart below)
b. Madi’s handling fee of $10 per shipment.
c. A "receiving and repacking fee" of $5 per package.
For example:
A single order that arrives in one box would cost $15 ($10 handling fee + $5 receiving & repacking fee).
A large order that comes in two boxes would cost $20 ($10 handling fee + 2 x the $5 ($10) receiving & repacking fee).
An order from several places that arrives in six boxes would cost $40 ($10 handling fee + $5 receiving & repacking x 6 boxes).
Sometimes we cannot fit all items into one box due to the weights or sizes of some items and in this case we will have to send in more than one box with charge for each box.
* DIM weight will be used if greater than actual weight. DIM weight is calculated by multiplying length, width & and height in inches, divided by 139.
**If there are any duties or taxes they will be collected from you by the delivery company.

* This chart is based on “Billable weight”. There are two weights when shipping items by air; the actual weight and the Dimensional weight (DIM wt) as the standards in air shipping. Air freight companies use the greater of the two to determine the “Billable weight”; so we have to as well. DIM weight is calculated as follows: L x W x H in inches divided by 139. E.g. 24 in x 48 in x 10 in would be a DIM weight of 83 lbs.
* Note that any packages over 62 linear inches (L + W + H) will need to be specially quoted as they exceed the regular small package guidelines. We ship bigger items all the time and the rates are also very good - sometimes amazingly good - but this chart does not accurately reflect prices.

Madi
We named it Madi's Remailing Service after my fourth daughter Madi. Madi is
one of the most easy going, obliging and helpful kids I have ever met. We
will all be sitting around the TV at night and someone wants something - "Hey
Madi, would you get me a glass of milk?" "Sure." She will get up and go get
it with no problem. Growing up with three older sisters I guess Madi was trained well. She has learned to be pretty relaxed about things. She's grown up now but is still like this with anyone who comes to visit - she is just a super sweet helper type of person.
So when we started this service I was trying to explain how this is like when we have to send stuff to our folks in the US and have them remail it us in Japan, or send it through a friend who goes back for a trip - I realized - it's like having Madi receive and repack items and mail them on to us - so that's the idea and the way we try to do it for you - like having Madi right there for you!
